The pressroom has closed but its binding operation has a stay of execution and will remain open until the new year, subject to review.
Around 170 GPMU members at the plant will be affected by the decision.
GPMU deputy general secretary Tony Burke said he was "very disappointed" at the outcome, as discussions over the plant's future had been on-going.
Burke said some machine managers would be redeployed, with some moving to Chantry, Petty, Greaves and Chromoworks sites.
A Polestar spokeswoman said the decision was "as had been announced in April this year", when Polestar said it was downsizing the operation and laying off around half of its workforce.
