Polestar helps print companies size up carbon footprint

Polestar is to help customers, suppliers and employees measure their carbon footprint with its inaugural 'Carbon - Ownership and Action' seminar.

The seminar is part of the company's strategic direction on environmental issues across the group.

Most recently, Polestar's Petty site achieved ISO 14001 status.

"We have ISO9001, FSC and PEFC status, but this latest accreditation shows our processes meet with environmental legislation," said managing director Chris Bowen.

"We continue to work with customers and suppliers to reduce and eliminate waste streams, and are well placed to meet their demands and to lead from the front."

In March 2007 Polestar Petty became the third Polestar site to achieve chain of custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

It was the second to gain Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). All UK plants except Varnicoat have attained FSC status. Polestar Sheffield also has ISO 14001.

The Leeds-based factory has six 64-page presses and a finishing kit list capable of handing millions of weekly magazines.
