Polestar Direct Leeds staff opt for deal to quit

Polestar Direct Leeds (PDL) has said that the majority of the 45 staff at its sheetfed division have taken redundancy packages following its closure.

PDL managing director Geoff Mordt said most workers had turned down offers to relocate to other Polestar divisions.

"Everyone was very responsible and it was very well handled. We now have a settled workforce and we want to put this period behind us," he said.

"Offers were made to staff but they wanted to leave," said GPMU Leeds and Central Yorkshire branch secretary Brian Brock. "That this was concluded amicably is a relief after all the turmoil."

Complete closure was avoided at Polestar Direct Leeds after it decided to focus on web production (PrintWeek, 23 September). But efforts were made to relocate the 45 staff on the sheetfed side, possibly to Polestar Chantry.
