The Harrogate-based business invested around £150,000 in the additional machine, which was installed at its circa-2,800sqm site in late June following “very good and thorough” training from Moll.
The kit will be used mainly for packaging – including cartons, boxes, food wraps, and straps – as well as for folders, both flat and with capacity and one-piece mailers.
Platinum commercial director Anthony Wyvill told Printweek: “One of our largest growth areas in the business is packaging, short and long run as well as personalisation. Due to our increased packaging output we decided to invest in the Moll so we could offer folding/gluing in-house.
“In comparison to hand finishing or including time to send it to a third-party finisher, this allows us to be more accurate, efficient and reduce our lead-times. Furthermore, bringing this finishing capability in-house also allows us to reduce our carbon footprint in removing the need to send the product to another supplier, and gives us greater quality control.”
Platinum, which had previously run a Moll device around 20 years ago, also looked at several machines from other suppliers, but found the Moll to be best suited to its requirements.
The business, which has additionally recently invested in software automation, also operates a Komori litho press, an HP Indigo 12000 digital press that went in last January, and finishing kit from Muller Martini, MBO, Horizon, and Heidelberg. It also has a mailing division and a large-format division, each with their own machinery.
Platinum works across a variety of sectors with various medium-sized enterprises; from health and beauty and construction to entertainment and education. It mainly produces marketing materials, ranging from branded signage and banners to product packaging, booklets, and posters.
The environmentally focused company has just become a Carbon Balanced Printer and has also placed an order for some solar panels for its roof.
