The folder-gluer, purchased less than a year old from Moll, was up and running products just two days after installation at Phase’s Nottingham site on 8 November.
Before putting it in, Phase had been producing much of its low-run packaging work by hand or outsourcing it, according to Jason Marks, Phase’s general manager.
He told Printweek: “We want to offer that service to other people, on a bit more of a medium-volume basis. We do quite a bit of trade work, so it’s nice to be able to do everything, rather than just passing it onto the next person.”
The DigiMoll originally caught Marks’ eye because Phase had been looking for kit that could produce a wide variety of machinable products - to that end, Phase bought the DigiMoll with added crash-lock carton and taping capabilities.
“You’ve got cartons, sleeves, mailers, all kinds of different products. And it’s quite compact for its firepower.”
The kit complements Phase Print’s installation of a Heidelberg SBB B2 foil-blocking and die-cutting machine in 2021, intended to support the firm’s growth in the packaging business.
Among its number of other presses, Phase also runs two Kirk-Rudy inkjet lines for its mailing and coding work.
