The press, which was installed at the Burnley-based company’s premises last month, is additional to the firm’s existing plant list and complements its existing B1 Heidelberg SM 102 five-colour and B2 SM 74 six-colour presses.
“It gives us the extra capacity, and over Christmas and New Year it’s been great for us because we’ve had both 102s on the go,” said commercial director Joanne Hindley.
The business also operates a two-colour B3 Heidelberg GTO 52 and a Xerox DocuColor 5000 SRA3 four-colour digital printer and offers finishing services including folding, die-cutting, creasing, foiling, embossing and shrinkwrapping.
The firm has added a new 418sqm facility to its existing premises to accommodate its expanding plant list. The total investment, which was first mooted last summer, totalled around £500,000.
“We’ve moved the finishing department into the extension and the new 102 has gone where the finishing department was previously. This has made our workflow much more streamlined,” said Hindley.
Production director Tom Gaughan added: “This press runs 25% faster and more efficiently. It enables us to meet our customers’ needs by delivering a first-class and fast-turnaround one-stop-shop printing service.”
Following the installation of the press, the firm held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark its first run.
Former Burnley FC striker Paul Fletcher, one of the company’s major clients as co-founder and director of the University and College of Football Business (UCFB), cut the ribbon.
Fletcher’s father was a printer in Bolton while his mother was involved in printing for Bolton Council. He also ran his own small printing business to supplement his income while he was an apprentice footballer. Peter Scott Printers prints prospectuses for UCFB.
Fletcher said: “I am always very supportive of local businesses, especially those that are investing and expanding.
“UCFB has a great business relationship with Peter Scott Printers so I was delighted to be asked to set the new press rolling, especially with my family connections to the print industry.”
Peter Scott Printers, which celebrated 55 years in business last year, currently employs 26 staff and produces print including folders, stationery, brochures, POS, direct mail, posters, magazines and leaflets for a number of blue-chip companies.
