Tyneside-based Print Design & Graphics (PDG) has won an order from Ohio company Kahiki Foods to produce its new retail merchandising sleeves.
The order, for 80,000 sleeves, will be used for a range of Kahiki ready-meals sold throughout the US in Walmart and Costco.
"The sleeve that we are now selling to the American ready-meal market is very cost-effective because it uses minimal packaging material, yet enables effective display of the product," said PDG joint managing director Gordon Scorer. "It is designed so products stand up, rather than lie flat."
Due to previous import restrictions PDG has had difficulties selling similar sleeves in North America.
"Now that we are competing on a level playing field we are looking forward to doing more business there," said Scorer.
Closer to home, the company has won an order from Dixons to print packaging using the Ecobliss cold seal blister system. PDG holds the licence for the system, which uses a cold seal process and has been touted as a replacement for the traditional blister pack.
