Parent firm steps in to bail out Lscher Flexo

Lscher Flexo, the UK division of Swiss pre-press manufacturer Lscher, has been bought after falling into administration.

Parent Lscher saved the direct flexo engraving kit manufacturer in Thame, Oxfordshire, after cash-flow problems, according to the UK firm's managing director Bruce Knox.

"We had problems after a rapid increase in orders," he said. "This meant a hefty outlay, and then we had production delays. We aimed to build two or three machines a month, but at one point it was five or six."

The company made three of the 22 staff redundant and aims to move kit assembly and servicing to Switzerland.

"We are picking up again. The intention is to move manufacturing to Switzerland by mid-summer, which would leave sales and applications support here," said Knox.

Accountants from BDO Stoy Hayward handled the administration of the firm, which has been renamed Lscher Swiss Flexo.

Lscher sells XPose! CTP systems and bought ZED Instruments in 2004 to form Lscher Flexo.
