Well, a heart-warming tale reaches Overmatter involving seven-year-old schoolboy, and brown sauce fan, Harry Deverill.
In a move that is surely a precursor to a budding career on the graphic design side of the business, Harry wrote to Waitrose managing director Mark Price to complain about the design of the label on its brown sauce bottle, which depicted some sort of mystery object.
Helpfully, he offered to supply his own alternative, thus gifting Waitrose with a golden PR opportunity.
A new label was rushed into print, and Harry’s design is now available in-store as a special limited edition. A bargain at £1.20.
We’re pretty confident the attendant publicity has resulted in a boost to sauce sales, and no doubt opened the door for similar stunts in the future.
