As such, news of a stylish project from master papermakers James Cropper stirred feelings of deep yearning for an alternative lifestyle.
The Cumbrian firm tasked eight designers to create something new from “seemingly humble” sheets of its white Porcelain grade, with stunning results. Of course, we at PrintWeek know that white paper is anything but humble, but that’s
by the by.
Stand-out treatments included ‘Kairos’ a printable clock created by designers Rosanna & Clint. “The paper has barely changed save for a few strategic cuts” notes the write-up.
Contemporary jewellery designer Megan Ocheduszko transformed the paper into necklaces, rings and bracelets by cutting it into thin lengths that were then spun into new shapes. The results were both amazing and exquisite.
And product designer Dan Hoolahan created a “porcelain vase” by gluing hundreds of laser-cut paper rings together to form a receptacle.
As Chris Brown, commercial director at James Cropper rightly says: “It’s the ultimate blank canvas”.
