Nuprint slams 'crazy' waste collection rules

Commercial printer Nuprint has hit out at government recycling policies for trade waste.

Managing director of the North Staffordshire-based company, Colin Lake, has said that recycling rules mean he has to send his waste paper on a 50-mile trip.

He said he is "bewildered" at the lack of measures that he claims discriminate against trade waste.

"It is crazy that my local council can pick up my household recycling but the government does not allow local authorities to take away my business waste paper."

Lake said there are a lot of companies that take a small amount of paper waste but not a tonne a week from a printer.

"It would be much better if the local council could take away the one tonne of waste paper generated by Nuprint."

Instead, he said his waste is collected by a private organisation that is then driven up the congested M6 to Bolton.

He called for more provisions to collect waste from businesses to end the "crazy" situation that his company finds itself in.

Nuprint provides design, print and photographic services to schools and NHS departments.
