ArtWork Systems new Nexus workflow has been designed to fit in with future trends in packaging.
"Customers wanted automation and there is a growth in the importance of digital workflow and the internet," said UK manager Jan Ruysschaert.
Nexus is a modular system. Modules include Processor, RIP, Manager and WebWay. The integration of the system with the internet includes configuring automation, remote proofing and approval online allowing the control of remote sites as well as quicker client approvals.
Nexus is also ready for the adoption of PDF by the packaging market.
"PDF is not ready for packaging yet," said Ruysschaert. "There are still issues with PMS colours and transparency. The release of PDF 1.4 later this year will sort all these out.
"Flexography is set to become the most important process for packaging."
With this in mind Nexus has developed screening and RIP software that optimises print quality.
FlexoCal uses image processing overexposing film in the imagesetter to compensate for the high dot gain of the flexo process.
Plate Cell Patterning introduces a fine screen within solids and dots that acts like a mini anilox, holding more ink and increasing print density while at the same time reducing the pressure needed.
