Deadman: Was focused on the niche during 2024

Zoe Deadman, managing director at Launceston-based KCS Print/Root Sustainable Labels is hoping to see economic stability and more support for SME businesses in 2025.

What positives are you able to draw on from the experiences of 2024?
Winning the Printweek Awards Environmental SME Company of the Year was a huge highlight. It's an accolade which has been a real pat on the back for the huge effort the team has put into our commitment to doing the right thing by our planet. Sustainability is at our core and has set us on the right path to delivering for our customers, our staff and our business in 2024.

What trend (business or technology) do you think has dominated 2024?
This past year has been dominated by AI and the increasing opportunities the technology offers to streamline operations and improve online marketing etc. That being said, the personal touch still works better than all the email marketing campaigns AI can muster.

What are your hopes for 2025?
I am hoping for economic stability and a realisation that SME businesses are not the magic money tree that the treasury seem to think we are. In reality the backbone of the British economy – small businesses – are floundering under a constant barrage of cost increases and bureaucracy which is hampering investment and job prospects.

What was your word or phrase of the year in 2024?
‘Focus on the niche’.

What’s your favourite Christmas cracker joke?
What do you call a snowman with a six pack?

An abdominal snowman.

Sprouts, yes or no?
I love a sprout – especially cooked with crispy pancetta.

Are you making any New Year's resolutions? If so, what?
Making sure I enjoy the journey rather than just focusing on the destination, and getting out to enjoy the Cornish coastline more.
