New industry body to tackle environment

A working group has been set up to look at environmental issues relating to the print industry.

The group was set up by Dale Wallis, the BPIF’s membership director-designate who heads up health and safety for the federation, alongside some of theindustry’s most forward-thinking firms on environmental issues (see below).

According to the BPIF, the group will grow and evolve following the first meeting as additional organisations are invited to cover new sectors. The first meeting will take place at the BPIF’s London office on 11 April.

Some of the areas to be discussed at the first meeting include climate change impacts on the printing industry, the development of a carbon policy, legislative impacts influencing the supply chain, working with standards and the eco label.

Wallis said: “The environmental working group will consist of some of the most advanced environmentally responsible organisations in the printing industry.

“It has been set up for all of us to pool a wealth of experience together and decide the way we should be going, as well as influencing organisations such as the Carbon Trust and Envirowise.”
