MPG buys Agfa kit to eliminate repro log jams

MPG Books has bought a host of Agfa pre-press kit in a 600,000 investment at its site in Bodmin, Cornwall.

The firm's pre-press revamp includes two Xcalibur 45 platesetters and two Sherpamatic 43 and a 24 ink-jet proofers, all integrated with Agfa's Apogee digital workflow.

According to MPG managing director Tony Chard the firm has eliminated all of its bottlenecks thanks to the proofing and CTP investment and the firm's existing remote proofing facility.

"From receipt of pre-flighted files from Beijing we can impose, remote proof, plate and print with the finished books delivered in only eight days," said Chard.

The Xcaliburs, which replace an Agfa Galileo platesetter, will be housed in a restructured building close to the three MAN Roland 700 presses, a four-colour and two two-colours,  installed last year.
