Nuffield Press has signed a deal with Agfa to go CTP.
The Abingdon-based firm, which specialises in academic journals, catalogues and prospectuses, has invested 750,000 on a new pre-press system.
"This is a demonstration that we are driving forward to develop the business," said managing director Peter Kennerley. "Having invested in presses it was time to devote some attention to the front-end."
Kennerley said CTP was likely to be the firms next major acquisition at the time of its MBO last year (PrintWeek, 20 October).
Equipment includes a Galileo VXT automatic violet diode platesetter, Apogee workflow and two Sherpa digital proofers.
"I was impressed with the Agfa system and very confident about its support," he said.
The Galileo will be installed in August after the rest of the equipment, including a network, and once staff have been trained.
"Our short-run work means we have quite a demand for plates," said Kennerley.
Nuffields existing Heidelberg pre-press set-up, which includes a Herkules imagesetter with Delta RIP and SignaStation, will be kept as back-up and integrated into the Agfa workflow.
It is also in the middle of installing a Tharstern MIS, which will be fully operational at the beginning of July, when it will start looking at e-commerce.
