Wide-format printer Moss UK has taken on a 100sqm office in London’s historic Tobacco Dock, giving it a base of operations within the city.

The St. Neots firm took on the showroom at the start of January with four employees, and expects to have finished decorating by the end of January.

“We’ve had a presence at Tobacco Dock for the last year, but it had very much been a matter of two project managers and a couple of desks,” explained Michael Green, managing director of Moss UK, speaking to Printweek.

“It’s been such a success for us working with the venue that we decided it made sense to have an enhanced presence, a showroom to show the scope and breadth of what we do. When the opportunity came, we jumped at it.”

Unlikely to house any print equipment, the showroom will instead be focused on helping current and potential clients; Moss is Tobacco Dock’s incumbent graphics and print supplier, and has had a “very successful year” working with the venue, Green added.

“It’s a challenging environment to work in, because there are elements [of the site] that are listed, but we’ve worked out really good solutions that the venue is happy with,” he said, with events on the Moss contract including one for Google and Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Summit.

The Wapping, London-based office is likewise well-connected on public transport for the city’s ExCel dockland conference centre.

“It’s absolutely perfect for us,” Green said.

The wide-format printer has enjoyed strong performance in 2024, growing 13% to around £16m turnover.

“We had a fantastic year last year, considering everything that was going on. We’re seeing a lot of growth in the experience economy, which is Moss’ sweet spot.

“We had good growth, good profitability, and we have some exciting stuff in the pipeline for this year – so I’m feeling optimistic. I’m not even going to say ‘cautiously’ optimistic!”
