Manroland hunts for oldest serving UK press

Manroland is launching a campaign to seek out the oldest serving Manroland press in the UK in the run up to next year's Ipex.

The Printing Classics campaign is open to owners of Roland Rekord, Favorit, Parva, Ultra and 800 presses, some of which date back to the 1970s.

Entrants can register on the Manroland website, stating the machine and what jobs it is currently being used for, and will receive a free VIP ticket to Ipex 2010.

The winner will be announced at Ipex 2010 and will receive a weekend for two at a European destination.

Sheetfed sales director Gary Doman said that he is convinced there could be "120 plus old-style machines in the UK."

"We want to make sure we look after these guys," he said. "Even if they aren't running a machine they've bought in the last five years, they're still our customers ... we can maybe still improve things with their machines."

He said many of these venerable presses have been converted for specific applications.

"Quite often they convert them to foiling or some type of cutting and creasing, or sometimes to work with corrugated," he said. "It would be great to find out what's out there."

He listed Graphic Packaging International, which runs two 700 machines as well as two 800 presses, and Easibind that has replaced an old Parva with a 500.
