The winner of the 'Printing Classics' campaign will be announced at this year's Ipex exhibition, the prize for which is a weekend for two in Barcelona.
Contenders so far include a 1974 Roland Favorit at Derbyshire's Easibind, which is still being used three days each week on double day shifts to produce covers for perfect bound corporate accounts. The covers use stock that the company's digital presses struggle to cope with, according to the company.
Other discoveries include a near 30-year-old machine turning out magazine covers while others are being adapted to print on plastics or apply UV finishes.
Manroland GB managing director Norman Revill said: "Presses such as the Rekord, Favorit and Ultra were cutting edge in the 1970s and the fact that some are still operating in an commercial capacity and in daily use is a source of immense pride for Manroland.
"It is a testament to their design and engineering that after all this time they remain a profitable production solution for customers."
The campaign closes 30 April. Registration is at www.manroland.co.uk/printingclassics.
