The union recognition deal was agreed between the new Amicus graphical paper and media sector, formerly the GPMU (PrintWeek, 4 November), and the German press manufacturer's service engineers.
The deal covers some 40 UK-based service and installation engineers of MAN Roland.
Amicus assistant general secretary Tony Burke said the union recognition deal was important for two reasons. Not only would it add to the sector's membership, which includes demonstrators and service engineers from the likes of Heidelberg and Komori, but also more importantly it marks the first collective agreement covering the service engineers and technicians.
Burke said the move was a good deal for the union, with talks being handled by the Amicus London branch office.
