Lastra takes over MCSi assets

Lastra has bought the newspaper and digital photography assets of MCSi just weeks after the Mitsubishi-owned company said it would withdraw from the UK market.

MCSi executive director Mike Warnes will become managing director of the new firm, Lastra Imaging (UK), which will begin operating on 15 October.

It will no longer distribute Creo products and customers will now have to either deal direct with Creo or NCS. Instead, the company will exclusively sell Lastra-manufactured plates, Western Lithotechs CTP range for newspapers and Sinar digital cameras.

MCSi already had a close synergy with Lastra, which manufactured its existing plate programme under a private label agreement.

Its better for us to have a much narrower portfolio as we are better focused. Lastra has made significant investments in its plate manufacturing facility providing our existing and new customers with a superb range of products, said Warnes.
