The machine combines a faster (65ppm) version of its colour engine with the heavyweight feeds, output and finishing modules of its high-volume black and white machine, the Bizhub 1050.
The enhanced combination of heavy-duty feeder and finishing options allows the 6500 to handle 300gsm stocks and a 200,000 page per month duty cycle.
"Everyone is screaming for colour, especially in a robust and reliable machine that doesn't cost a fortune," said Konica Minolta head of production print Jos Kelly. Pricing for the machine has yet to be determined, but Kelly added that "it's fair to say it will be competitive against anything out there".
Like its smaller 50ppm sibling the C500, the C6500 will be offered with Creo and EFI Fiery front ends.
Konica Minolta hinted earlier this year that a "major product launch" would be its highlight at Ipex.
Another Konica Minolta innovation due to be launched at will be an inline perfect binder for the 1050, which has the capacity to bind a 300pp document.
It will enable commercial printers to offer on-demand digital perfect binding.
