How was the job produced? Lamination was carried out on a Billhofer laminator, while the spot UV was applied on a Sakurai Maestro screen-printing machine. The sleeve was laminated and cut and creased by Celloglas to be placed over the box.
According to Celloglas marketing manager Jennifer Deacon, the key element of the product was the Mirri H Colours Blue material with Cellotouch lamination and a spot UV. She says: "This combination of finishes produced a wonderful metallic effect that was soft to touch with a glistening contrast, created through the use of gloss spot UV."
Mirri H Colours is a Mirri material. The film is dyed during manufacture to produce vivid, deep shades – the blue was created especially for this job.
What challenges were overcome? Deacon explains: "To achieve the detail on the Spot UV we mixed a bespoke formulation of varnish to prevent it flowing off the image area and enable us to hold that level of detail. We also used extra coats of emulsion on the screen and a special brand of emulsion designed for fine detail."
What was the feedback? The lashes were sold through salons and trained beauty technicians. John McNiff, creative director, FatCat Design, part of the Nouveau Beauty Group, said: "We wanted to create a premium feel, with a look that suggests royalty and luxury and are very happy with the result that Celloglas and Mirri have achieved."
Killer App: Celloglas achieves regal touch with new blue
Celloglas produced the packaging for Nouveau Lashes' limited-edition Mink Strip Lashes, which were promoted as 'The Royal Lash, fit for a princess'. The pack had a royal blue Mirri sleeve and a Cellotouch finish, which was a bespoke addition as Cellotouch is not a standard product of the Mirri range. It also featured a gloss spot UV pattern.
