What did the job entail?
Leicester design group Stocks Taylor Benson created the Decades of Design direct mail pieces, inspired by trends from the past seven decades. A limited edition pop-up book of the spreads was up for grabs as a competition prize – Sasha O’Neill of Tyneside printer Elanders was the winner.
How was the job produced?
The direct mail pieces were printed on Antalis McNaughton’s range of creative papers – Curious Collection, Rives, Pop’Set, Conqueror, and Keaykolour. Within each set, six inserts were printed using a variety of techniques, such as spot UV and embossing. The seven A2 pop-up spreads were presented in a hard-bound cover for display on plinths at the Roadshow.
What challenges were overcome?
The pop-up pieces were made with a CAD system to cut out the shapes and make the art pieces by hand. Pages were created on Adobe Illustrator and translated as a Kasemake file to drive the CAD plotting table. Numerous versions were made to ensure they could be displayed correctly.
What was the feedback?
Elanders’ Sasha O’Neill said: "The book is very engaging – there is the intrigue to turn page after page."
