Key2 Group, based in Horndean, Hampshire, spent £30,000 on the new machine, which won over the team with its clarity and high speed.
“It zips through print of up to 1.6m wide, coping with over 100sqm/hr with resolution up to 1,440dpi,” said managing director Mike Keating.
The machine joins a Mimaki JV33 that prints up to 2.6m wide and an Agfa Anapurna 5050 flatbed machine for printing on substrates such foam boards and doors.
The new addition is used for advertising, retail and branding jobs for clients including Adidas, L’Oreal Group and the Southern Cooperative.
Keating said: “We already have lower-speed printers that offer stunning resolution and others that are able to print direct-to-substrate with UV-cured inks.
“But this new Mimaki printer will add to our machine bank and enable us to cover every aspect of a customer’s demands – high speed, width, economy and stunning photographic resolution.”
He added: “The stand-out feature is two sets of printheads: it can print twice as fast – up to 106m/hr, which is almost unbelievable – or it can print very, very high quality.
“It will allow us to go into new markets such as poster prints by lowering costs. In the past we focused on quality but now we can keep print quality high but do the job faster.”
Keating added: “Back in 2009 we were the first company in the UK with the then-new Roland Jetser.
“We already have other Mimaki machines and we also made headlines in 2013 with our £90,000 Agfa Anapurna UV printer which also prints white.
“This enabled us to forego buying in expensive screen printing and do everything in house ourselves.
“Now, with a steady market climate beginning to take shape we have continued the trend of further investment.”
