The machine, which was installed at the Hull-based firm’s premises around two weeks ago along with a Mimaki CGFX-II 160 cutter, was bought from Kettering-based wide-format specialist I-Sub Digital for a total cost of around £30,000.
The company wanted to update its set-up to cope with increased business and I-Sub recommended the JV300. The new machine joins two Mimaki JV33 printers, also supplied by I-Sub.
The JV300 prints at speeds of up to 105.9sqm/hr, has a max resolution of 1,440dpi and nine colour options including orange, light black and white inks.
“It's much faster on things like banners and vinyl than our existing Mimaki JV33s but the quality is still excellent,” said RMC Digital Print operations manager Nicole Spencer.
“We're very busy at the moment and being able to use the same ink across the three Mimaki machines makes jobs even easier especially with the benefit of matching colour output.
“We’ve already done quite a big wallpaper job on it which we wouldn’t have been able to do so quickly if we hadn’t had this machine because we wouldn’t have had the capacity.”
The business is currently using the device to print wallpaper to be used on the set of a TV studio. It has also printed wallpaper and canvases for use on other major television shows and sporting events.
Last year the firm bought a Vutek GS3250LX 3.2m flatbed and roll-fed machine with LED curing. It also operates a Vutek GS5000r roll-to-roll printer.
RMC Digital, which has 20 staff and a turnover of around £2.5m, specialises in multi-layered graphics as well as general wide-format displays for signage, exhibition and set design companies. It also produces wallpapers, floor graphics, scaffold wraps and canvas prints.
