Jupiter leaves Callprint's orbit in MBO

Two events graphics stalwarts have led an MBO at Callprint group company Jupiter Visual Communications and set an ambitious target of doubling the size of the business in 12 months.

Callprint director Ben Moss and Jupiter managing director David Snaith completed the MBO on 25 May.

Jupiter launched in July 2014 as a wholly owned, standalone business within the Callprint group when Moss joined Callprint. It was named after one of Moss’s former businesses.

The duo, who had also previously worked together at McKenzie Clark, Icon and Service Graphics, now serve as joint chief executives of the eight-staff business, which specialises in events and interior branding, retail and POS project management.

According to Snaith, Callprint, which has operations across the UK and Dubai, will continue to be a production partner to Jupiter for it its print-based output.

“Jupiter is positioned as a project management service,” said Snaith. “Print will be a part of that but it is not a focus. It made more sense for us to work with a broad range of like-minded partners that can suit our requirements.

“We have an amazing team of people, many of whom were originally part of Jupiter in the 90s, and have not lost a single one in the MBO. They have non-traditional backgrounds within the sector and are all industry experts.

“Our work could be anything from the biggest building wrap right the way down to the smaller, bespoke events – across markets like retail, sport, live events and exhibitions.”

Snaith described Jupiter as an “agency’s agency” – a remit he plans to hone in the near future. The £3m-turnover firm operates out of a site at the Tobacco Dock events space in London and has recently renewed its contract to provide events services within the building.

The firm aims to double its turnover to £6m in the first year of operation, according to Snaith.

He encouraged printers interested in developing production partnerships with Jupiter to “get in touch” as it was looking to expand its supplier network.

In a statement, Callprint said it welcomed the MBO, but hinted that in some areas it may end up competing with its former business.

“Callprint provides visual communications services and project management as part of the existing group structure and now brings those solutions under one brand [Callprint], whilst Jupiter’s team will now re-focus to suit their own business plans.”

In the statement, Callprint managing director Steve Cheek said: “The Callprint brand has invested heavily in state of the art technology and the development of the Callprint brand.  This buyout makes perfect business sense and allows us to focus on our clients' needs as one central point of contact for them.”

Jupiter Visual Communications recently underwent a full rebrand with the aid of designer Toby Tinsley, who has worked with brands such as Virgin and Ford.
