Ivanhoe premieres Fujis Segundo FM screening

Ivanhoe has been revealed as the UKs first user of Fujis Segundo FM screening.

The Musselburgh-based sheetfed printer plumped for a violet-based CTP package from Fuji to run FM screening after initially thinking it would have to go thermal with either Screen or Creo to do FM screens.

"We were originally thinking of moving to thermal CTP to achieve the quality necessary," said director John Hopkinson. "However, we realised the Fuji violet solution was more than capable of providing the quality, reliability and efficiency we needed."

Moving to FM screening allowed Ivanhoe to produce specials out of CMYK, which had a dramatic effect on productivity for the firm, which uses four-colour Heidelberg Speedmasters.

"Seven-, eight- or nine-colour jobs are not unusual, now we can do them in one pass," said pre-press manager David Laidlaw.

As well as being cheaper up front, Laidlaw said running costs for the Fuji violet plates were lower than for thermal plates needing less processor maintenance.
