Inks and digital printing kit boost Agfa results

Agfa's Jeti Tauro wide-format printer is designed to run 24/7

Sales at Agfa’s Digital Print & Chemicals wing were up 7.2% last year, with the unit taking over from Radiology Solutions as the group’s biggest business.

The division grew to €438m (£368.7m) turnover, including record top line and EBITDA from Digital Printing Solutions, while sales at Radiology Solutions were down 9.8% at €383m and Healthcare IT slipped by 3% at €242m.

Adjusted EBITDA at Digital Print & Chemicals jumped by 65.2% to €30.8m.

Sales were also up at Contractor Operations, which supplies products to ECO3, the former Agfa offset business, with sales up 10.1% at €75m. Adjusted EBITDA more than doubled, at €5.7m (2023: €2.6m)

Overall group sales were down 1.1% at €1.14bn.

The group's share price jumped by 11.62% on the results, to €0.87 (52 week high: €1.48 low: €0.59).

CEO Pascal Juéry commented: “In 2024, we continued to capitalise on the successful strategies we designed for our growth engines. Our HealthCare IT, Digital Printing Solutions and Green Hydrogen Solutions divisions all achieved record-high EBITDA figures in the fourth quarter of 2024 and delivered excellent full year results.”

At Digital Printing Solutions top line growth was 13%. Ink sales jumped by 15% on the back of Agfa’s ongoing push to convert Inca customers to Agfa inks.

Agfa said it expected to build further momentum with its digital printing portfolio for the sign and display market segment this year, based on recent product launches and its global strategic partnership with EFI for certain large-format devices.

The group described progress in the industrial and packaging segment as “solid” with this part of its business expected to make a positive contribution this year.

The first SpeedSet Orca 1060 in the world was installed at Delta Group last year, and Agfa has just sealed a multi-year contract with BHS Corrugated for single-pass inkjet tech and inks in that market.

Agfa also said that it planned “at least four major product launches” during 2025, with the firm poised to unveil three new products at the upcoming Fespa Global Print Expo in Berlin under the ‘Powerful by Nature’ theme.

“This spring, we will once again expand our inkjet portfolio to help print service providers take on new challenges,” said Arnaud Calleja, vice president of Digital Printing Solutions.

“At Fespa in Berlin, we will show three new powerful additions – reinforcing our promise to provide a beast for every need.”

Further details are currently under wraps.

Fespa Global Print Expo 2025 takes place from 6-9 May at Messe Berlin.

Agfa has also recently reached agreement on restructuring plans for its traditional film business in Belgium. This aims to reduce costs by €50m by the end of 2027, with the loss of up to 530 jobs.

Initial savings are expected to flow through in H2 2025.
