The 5000 continuous forms, full-colour machine can now print at speeds of up to 128m per minute, compared to its previous maximum output at 64m.
The InfoPrint press, which comes from a joint venture between IBM and Ricoh, is designed for transpromo, books on-demand and direct mail applications.
Existing customers of the machine are eligible for a field upgrade to the new model, which will be available in the second quarter of 2009.
The InfoPrint 5000 printers use piezo-electric, drop-on-demand inkjet technology, with water-based pigment or dye inks.
Early last year, Dsicmm snapped up the UK's first InfoPrint 5000 to offer its transpromo service.
Jim Hamilton, group director of InfoTrends printing and publishing service, said: "Driven by a range of applications, including transaction, transpromo, direct marketing, and publishing, the InfoPrint 5000 is breaking new ground in the high-speed, continuous forms colour world."
