Indigo 5000 press lets TSO shave run lengths

The Stationery Office (TSO) is to move into print-on-demand and short-run work after installing a seven-colour HP Indigo 5000.

London-based TSO will use the digital press to produce government and parliamentary work.

"We have seen an increasing demand for the production of spot and full-colour short-run work from both governmental departments and commercial customers," said TSO operations director Terry Bailey.

The new digital press allows us to load spot colours onto the press, in addition to the usual CMYK colour gamut."

Bailey added that this helped the firm to produce corporate and brand colours for its commercial customers.

Extra on-demand runs will be produced on the 5000 after litho runs have been completed.

"We needed to find a technical solution that would allow us to create products to meet demanding schedules while maintaining the high-quality levels we achieve using traditional litho," said Bailey.

The document printer has facilities throughout the UK including Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham, Manchester and Norwich.
