Print industry supplier httprint is to integrate Pageflexs Mpower technology into its US e-commerce offering.
The variable data software will allow companies to customise brochures, creating tailored documents on demand.
The company also plans to roll the tie-up out into Europe, although it has no timetable for this as yet.
The move represents the shape of things to come, according to httprint europe marketing director Tim Smith. "It is the tip of the iceberg," he said. "This is a major player, but its taken a while to see who they would go for. Variable data, colour management and all the other things we have been working on will now start to drop into place."
The company would need to evaluate the compatibility with US systems and see how much it can add to the European market since the product may need modification before making the transfer, Smith said.
The new deal is another step towards a consolidated marketplace, he added. "In the first phase, survival was the priority but now 80% of the horses have been removed not quite as drastic as this years Grand National, but we will end up with two or three runners."
