Howitts move to its new site is underway and on schedule, and the company has confirmed that it plans to order a second new 16pp web.
The company is consolidating its two existing Nottingham plants onto a single 13,400m2 site at Sutton-in-Ashfield, close to junction 28 of the M1.
A new six-colour Heidelberg M600 has already been ordered, and Howitts will move an existing six-colour M600 from its Bulwell site.
The company has now revealed that a third, brand-new five-colour M600 will be installed at the end of the year taking the firms spend to 10m.
Howitts currently runs four webs two 16pp and two 8pp.
"Were only taking one of our existing presses, but we will still end up with 48pp of capacity the same firepower, but over three 16pp machines," explained sales director Mike Normyle. "It will give our client base far more flexibility, and reduce downtime and waste. Were also looking forward to enjoying the logistical benefits of operating from one site."
Normyle said that the tough conditions in commercial web had not quashed the companys ambitions.
"Yes, its a bold move, but is there ever a good time? We are going against the tide, but we are confident. The marketplace is hard, but we have to offer the right price, service and quality," he added.
Howitts believes that its three M600 set-up will be unique in the UK. Both six-colours will be equipped with integrated inline finishing.
