The Shipley, Bradford-based business expects the machine to give it more than double the output achieved from an outgoing Speedmaster 102 press.
The 105 will handle a range of jobs that include direct mail and commercial print, as well as greetings cards and some packaging work.
Herbert Walker, which employs more than 100 staff, decided on the five-unit straight XL machine through Heidelberg's business advisory programme.
Stephen Whitley, managing director of Herbert Walker, said: "We hadn't appreciated how little work we were perfecting before this analysis was done. Increasingly greetings cards use inserts so are printed one side only."
The XL, which will join two CD 102 perfectors and a six-colour B2 press, is specified with inkline cartridges and an ImageControl spectrophotometer.
Whitley said: "We put ImageControl in for our CD 102 six- and seven-colour presses a year ago and we have seen significant benefits in quality and makeready times as a result. We wouldn't have a press without spectral measurement now."
