Heidelberg has launched a new two-colour press aimed at the jobbing printer. Heidelberg UK sales director, George Clarke, said the release of the Printmaster PM 74, was in response to growing customer demand in the medium range of the press market. He said: The Printmaster is a low cost alternative, its for customers who couldnt perhaps afford a Speedmaster. Now they can get the 74, and grow with us. The two-colour 50x70cm Printmaster is able to run at 12,000 sheets per hour. It has a quick clamp release to aid manual plate change, as well as a plate cylinder that automatically stops at the correct position. The press can handle paper grades from 0.03mm to 0.6, and in formats ranging from 210x280 to 530x740. The Printmaster operates the Heidelberg Alcolor dampening system. It has lever controls for ink adjustment on the laser-slit knife-type ink fountain. Clarke said that the Printmaster was 20-25% cheaper than the two-colour Speedmaster. He added that although make ready times may be slightly longer on the 74, the added value would make it an attractive press. He said that the Printmaster 74 would be particularly attractive to customers in countries where labour costs were lower.
