Heidelberg has launched its new devolved consumables service in the UK, which it hopes will make it one of the largest suppliers of pressroom consumables within the next three years.
Last year it scrapped plans to have a centralised consumables arm in its five global segments in favour of each region choosing partners on a local level (PrintWeek, 1 September).
Heidelberg UK consumables manager Stephen Kyle said: "When Heidelberg retracted the global concept it didnt really affect us. We had already built up our suppliers and range of products. Were keeping the ones weve already chosen."
The range will include films, plates, proofing materials, inks and chemicals. Some products, such as KPG plates, will be sold under their manufacturers name, while others will carry the Heidelberg name. Manchester-based Varn will supply pressroom chemicals.
Kyle refused to comment on Heidelbergs choice of ink supplier or suppliers.
He said: "Ink will be re-badged with the Heidelberg name. All products carrying the Heidelberg name are selected and tested. Everything that we sell has to go through the Heidelberg quality gate system."
