Graphic design student creates printed baubles for Century Printing

To help celebrate this festive season, graphic design student Katie Newman created a set of Christmas tree baubles honouring the print industry's great inventors, with which she decorated the window of her father's print shop, Norfolk-based Century Printing.

The paper baubles featured images of great inventors including Chester Carlson, inventor of xerography, Monotype’s Tolbert Lanston and Alois Senefender of lithography fame.

Three machines were also honoured by Katie’s dedicated baubles: the Heidelberg Platen, a "revolutionary" machine according to Katie’s father Roger; the Harris Aurelia 125; and the Xerox DocuColor 242. The latter two machines are currently used at Century Printing.

Katie said: "I thought our ordinary Christmas decorations in the shop were, well, just too ordinary. I wanted to create something that relates to what we do as a business and the history behind the developments in print through time.

"We have had some customers who used to work in the industry who have taken a particular interest in expanding their knowledge of printing using our Christmas tree."
