GPMU to set out Europe plans at TUC conference

The GPMU will draw attention to three key industry concerns at the TUCs annual conference in Brighton next week.

It will put forward motions on employment legislation and Britains entry into Europe at the four-day event.

And for the first time the union will put forward a third motion on equal pay, selected by the womens TUC for inclusion.

The union will ask the government to review the Employment Relations Act, to bring UK legislation in line with the rest of Europe.

We have been lobbying for this for 10 years, particularly the removal of the exemption for small firms, said a GPMU spokesman.

The union is also demanding urgent action on Europe and calling for the earliest possible date for a referendum on the euro.

Finally, it is highlighting the continuing gender pay gap, and will call for a programme to build on the 2000 equal pay campaign.
