Gordon Press MBO team plan to double capacity

The Gordon Press has been bought in a management buyout, with plans to expand the business over the next two years.

Managing director Eric Mitchell, former general manager at the Croydon-based printer led the bid, accompanied by newcomer to the industry David Mills, who will handle commercial and financial matters at the firm

The duo acquired the commercial and security printing firm from Stephen Wrate, who is now pursuing other interests. All 18 employees who were previously with the company have been retained.

Gordon Press plans to expand its business on the security printing side, which accounts for 60% of its business, utilising its current spare capacity. Investment will be made in new equipment, with the Heidelberg house planning to step into the multi-colour market in the near future.

"The plan is to double the firm's capacity within the next two years," said Mitchell.

The firm is APACS accredited and prints personalised cheques, giros and cheque remittances, along with commercial print items.
