The new 2,000 sqm facility, situated close to GI Direct’s main Leicester site, is capable of producing 3m mailing packs per week. A raft of kit has been installed at the site, giving the firm new capacity to produce tip-ons.
According to GI Direct sales director Patrick Headley, the new site will be a “centre of excellence” for the company, with the latest finishing equipment and workflow systems. The site includes kit from Pitney Bowes and CMC.
Headley said: “The Pitney Bowes equipment is very flexible and designed for selective enclosing. The CMC kit is more robust and we are considering installing more equipment at the site.
“The facility adds value to our operation as a whole, and we wanted to develop the enclosing site to hold more capacity.”
The factory incorporates a warehouse and a storage area, which can store up to 1,000 pallets.
Opening of the new site follows the group’s rebranding from Graphic Inline earlier this year. In addition to GI Direct, the group’s other divisions are database marketing arm GI Insight and print management division GI Solutions.
GI Solutions Group has a turnover of £24m and a workforce of 201. It operates in sectors including retail, financial, mail order, IT and charity.
The firm was founded in 1992 and the main Leicester site operates two five-colour Zirkon web presses.
