Horrorville, the 12,000-run first issue of which hit the newsstands yesterday (25 August), joins Crime Scene and Comic Heroes as the third specialist quarterly title in Future’s film group.
Future Film Group special editions editor Will Salmon said the idea for a magazine focusing on horror had been floating around, but it became his project when he took up the post last May to follow through with it.
Salmon said: “There are already two or three horror magazines out there, but they can be quite hard to find on newsstands. We wanted to make one that was easily findable on the high street.
“There is a current wave of really interesting horror, both on the big screen and on television, really smart engaging shows that have appeal outside of horror fandom. We hope that the magazine will be accessible, friendly and fun."
The magazine had its launch at the Horror Channel FrightFest 2016 festival in London on the same day as its official release date.
The 116-page quarterly is printed by West Midlands-based magazine printer William Gibbons & Sons. Text pages are produced on its Komori 38S11 web press, while the covers are printed on a Komori Lithrone S40P. Paper used for the text pages is 90gsm GraphoSilk and for the cover is coated 200gsm Titan stock.
The first issue features a preview of the new Blair Witch sequel, along with an interview with Susan Hill, author of The Woman in Black. It also has a number of other features, reviews and a short news section.
Salmon is the only permanent member of staff working on the magazine, all the other contributors and production staff are freelancers.
