Further evidence links Xmedia Marketing to Euroworld

Further evidence of Xmedia Marketing's connection with Euroworld has been uncovered by PrintWeek, following Xmedia's attempts to mask its ties to the failed mailing house.

However, Xmedia Marketing director Gareth Probert has maintained that, aside from taking on "some" former Euroworld employees, the two businesses are completely unconnected.

Brentford-based Euroworld went into liquidation in November last year, just seven months after it was raided over illegal employees. However, it was speculated that Xmedia Marketing, which was formed in April 2010, was in effect a continuation of the business.

Xmedia Marketing denied any connection between the two businesses, despite company secretary Mavis Hobbs appearing at both companies, leading to the removal of articles on the PrintWeek website.

However, further investigation has revealed that the connections between the two businesses run much deeper.

Hobbs and Nicola Mackin were both directors of Euroworld Direct Marketing, which changed its name to SUF in June 2010, when it was incorporated in 1997. They were also both directors at E2 Print Management, which was incorporated in 2003 and dissolved in 2008.

A further company, Euroworld, was incorporated in May 2010, with Hobbs and Mackin its directors.

In April 2010 Xmedia Marketing was formed, with Hobbs secretary and Probert director. Probert also appears to be Hobbs' son – Mavis Probert is listed as the mother on Gareth Probert's birth certificate.

According to the voters' roll, Hobbs and Probert shared an address from 1989-1996 and again in 2001-02.

PrintWeek was also contacted by a customer of Euroworld, who was emailed by the company in May 2010 informing him that Euroworld was becoming Xmedia Marketing.

The email stated: "Euroworld has changed their name. Our new name is XMM as cross-media marketing is a new service we now offer. For the next few weeks both emails will run in tandem, invoicing will start to come to you as XMM, Euroworld as a name will be phased out as quickly as possible. Nothing actually changes, Euroworld is a solid company we are just changing the name to reflect the changes in DM."

There are a number of additional links between the two companies from social networking website LinkedIn. According to Xmedia's LinkedIn page, Richard Ives, formerly head of operations at Euroworld, is its cross-media marketing specialist. Bob Vincent is also listed as an account director at both Xmedia and Euroworld.

Elsewhere, directory listings websites Hot Frog and 118 list Xmedia Marketing at the same address as Euroworld, while one lists Xmedia's website as Euroworld.

However, in response to being asked if there were any connections between Xmedia and Euroworld, in a statement Probert said that Xmedia began trading six months before Euroworld's demise and that he was sole director of the business and it had no association with Euromedia.

Probert said: "I was made aware of the financial difficulties of Euroworld Direct Marketing. As a consequence of this information, which came to me via a member of my family I recognised an opportunity wherein it would be possible to engage the expertise of a few of the former Euroworld employees. I chose to take the opportunity and engaged some of the staff."
