The software has undergone a complete makeover, and is now much more efficient and faster, so that it still works effectively even at relatively low bandwidths.
Fujifilm's Andy Walker, technical manager for the European software business unit said: "We've totally redesigned the front end to make it easier for users to get into the site.
"Previously users would have logged straight into a job queue, but now we ask them whether they are an uploader or an approver at the start and direct them to the most appropriate sections. So their route through is much quicker."
The system has also been designed with more graphical elements, in part to boost usability, but also because it better suits the iPad app that is now available for it. For example, someone logging in to approve a job would be presented with a cover image and key information about the job, although a more traditional column view is still available.
Walker said the iPad app features all the content and toolsets available to users on other client devices such as a desktop but that the company is looking to the future and what publishers and print buyers are likely to need.
John Davies, Fujfilm Europe business strategy manager, workflow said: "In spite of the current economic downturn and the understandable caution that many printers are exercising when it comes to investing in new technology, sales of XMF Remote have been strong. With XMF Remote, customers reap immediate benefits in terms of speedier proofing and faster total job turnaround times, both of which have a direct impact on their bottom lines. An investment in XMF Remote provides quantifiable levels of ROI from the outset, making it a thoroughly justifiable investment for print businesses of all shapes and sizes."
Walker said there are around 20 installs already in the UK, including Buxton Press, which has the largest XMF install in Europe.
The latest version of the software, which is built around the JDF and Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) specifications, is available as a free upgrade to current users with a maintenance agreement, while new installs cost between £10,000 and £12,000.
