While XMF 3.1 is not a major upgrade, it does include several refinements to the previous version, which was unveiled at last year's Ipex exhibition.
"We've brought the JDF support up to the latest version in XMF 3.1, which allows us to interface with more equipment which is also at the same level," said workflow business strategy manager John Davies.
"We can also support finishing equipment by exporting data to pre-setup cutting and folding machines at the back end of the workflow."
Davies added that Fujifilm had made significant advances to XMF Remote, which provides greater automation and integration between printer and client.
"The goal was to get as little human intervention with that product as possible and just let XMF Remote do what it does. So now, once the printer has got Remote installed he doesn't really need to touch it anymore because everything's driven from the workflow," said Davies.
"So whereas previously you'd make a proof out of a workflow, you're now making a Remote proof – so from a printer's point of view XMF is publishing a job to Remote and automatically sending out notifications to the client to come back and approve it."
Fujifilm has also recently announced an iPad app for XMF Remote, which is currently accessed via a Java-based app on a PC or Mac browser. The iPad version will be demonstrated at Publishing Expo at Earls Court 2 this week (1-2 March).
