Fuji Photo Film aims to win over rivals customers to its plates and lead the way to a more open market place with a new plate.
The positive plate, VPC-E, can be used with chemicals from firms such as Agfa and Kodak Polychrome Graphics, and does away with the need for changing those chemicals if you use a different plate.
Traditionally Fuji has had a milder developer than Agfa or Kodak, said a Fuji spokesman. This limited possibilities for trialling Fuji plates without changing the processor and chemicals, which people didnt want.
Fujis plate is compatible with the EP 260, EP 361 and EP 26 developers from Agfa as well as the Goldstar from KPG.
He said that using the plate involved no interruption of production, no labour-intensive retrofitting and no extra costs.
The VPC-E is an alternative for customers who prefer to use printing plates from two different suppliers, he added.
The plates are available in Europe and Fuji is testing demand for a UK roll-out.
