Bristol-based Folio already offered a host of finishing services, but has added case-binding, hardcover printing and slip case production through the acquisition.
Avon Bookbinders is in the process of moving its machines into Folio’s facility and expects to complete the move by the new year.
Although it will continue to trade under the Avon brand, the company will be incorporated as part of its new parent.
Two full-time members of staff have been taken on, while two additional members of staff have been employed.
Folio managing director Andy Bird said: "Avon complements what we already offer; it is another service. It was a father and son team and they will be able to continue operating as they were from within our building, "Once they are in we will look to increase the range of products they can handle. We already have die-making on site, so everything can be worked around to make this move work for them and us."
Bird added that Folio might also look to automate some of Avon Bookbinders’ processes, which are currently semi-automatic.
He also said that he hoped the move would help bring some work back to the UK. "In the past two or three years, the UK has lost a lot of work to China," he said.
"But we seem to be clawing it back slowly."
