The company, which supplies luxury and educational stationery to customers across the UK as well as in the US, Canada and Australia, already runs two Horizon perfect binders: a BQ-150 and a BQ-440. The BQ-270V, supplied by Horizon's UK and Ireland distributor Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS), was installed in August. It runs at 500bph and offers perfect binding and production of books of variable thickness.
Enveco started to offer notebooks with design-led or versioned covers a year ago, and demand has grown, and continues to grow, rapidly – managing director Piyush Shah confirmed stationery orders had doubled since the Horizon's installation.
“We are currently looking for further expansion across our entire machinery portfolio,” said Shah.
“We did not consider any other vendors because we were satisfied with our other machines from Horizon and did not feel the need to change. We knew it was what we wanted.
“A year ago, we invested in a smart finishing system, a Horizon StitchLiner 6000 with HSF-30s high-speed sheet feeder and CF-30 cover feeder. With the new binder, we wanted to start off with the single-clamp BQ-270V and then see how the business grows. When we need to we can then upgrade to the four-clamp Horizon BQ-470.
“So far, it works like a dream. It is easy and fast to set up. All the books we produce can be different and so the variable software that automatically makes ready each book is very useful. It is also highly flexible, which ensures production is efficient.”
The machine includes an automated, sensor-activated digital caliper system, which measures book block thickness and automatically transfers this data to the binder for automated setup for books of different thicknesses. It features a 260mm colour touchscreen and job programming.
Enveco’s circa-50-strong team runs more than 40 machines, according to Shah. It is divided across two factories – one in Milton Kenyes and a specialist envelope site in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire – with a combined footprint of 6,500sqm.
