The company said that the machines could challenge photographic duratrans output from the likes of the Océ Lightjet and Durst Lambda.
The future for wide-format is high-definition point-of purchase (PoP), which can be viewed from 1m or less, said EFI Vutek vice president of marketing Chuck Dourlet. Photo realistic quality output is important.
The range comprises two machines: the 5m-wide roll-to-roll GS5000r and the 3.2m-wide hybrid (flatbed and roll-to-roll) GS3200. They are based on a new printhead and Vutek’s latest UV-cured inks.
The GS5000r is Vutek’s first 5m-wide UV machine and, according to the company, it is capable of producing 288m2 per hour of sellable output", which is achieved when the eight-colour machine is run in 'fast four' mode with two sets of CMYK.
The GS3200, which Dourlet claimed offered category redefining productivity, has 10 ink channels, eight for colour and two for white ink. In 'fast five' mode (two sets of CMYK+ white), the machine can produce 223m2 per hour. In high-quality mode, the machine can produce 112m2 per hour.
New printhead technology offers 1,000 dpi resolution with 12 picolitre ink drops and 600dpi resolution with 24 picolitre ink drops.
EFI’s Fiery XF RIP drives both machines. They will be shown at Fespa Digital and available in Q2. The GS3200 will cost 451,000 euros (£413,317) and the GS5000 375,000 euros (£343,708).
