Dutch printers to meet buyers in UK

Representatives from six Dutch printers are to meet UK print buyers in an event organised by the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce to highlight the benefits of outsourcing abroad.

It has been set up in conjunction with the Royal Netherlands Embassy and Dutch trade association KVGO, which recently held a similar event in Brussels.

Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce director Michiel van Deursen said: “We haven’t targeted the UK print sector before, but we’ve noticed that more of the large print buyers are looking to the Netherlands and to the continent in general.

Electronic communications and a strong pound are making it a more attractive option.”

The event needs 20 to 30 big players to make it a success, and 150 have already expressed interest.

John Brown Citrus Publishing production director Darrel Crowley said tackling the UK market on UK soil was a good initiative.

“If the criteria that we all look for as print buyers are met, then I’m sure UK buyers will place their work in Holland. I would certainly consider doing so,” said Crowley.

But BPIF director of external and corporate affairs Cicely Brown did not believe such an event would be a threat to UK printers.

“It won’t be unlocking any great secrets, as when it comes to large printers, the European market is very open. But a face-to-face meeting may enable them to penetrate the UK market more easily,” said Brown.

The free event takes place on 20 November in London.
