Designer creates environmentally friendly children's toys with paper honeycomb substrate

Designer Shell Thomas has used Dufaylite's Ultra Board to create children's toys and to deck out window displays at Oliver Bonas's London store.

The paper honeycomb substrate was used to create winter wildlife scenes including birds and a life-size family of deer and has subsequently used Ultra Board in a children's environmentally friendly flat-pack rocking horse, the Eco Rocker.

The rocking horse uses one Dufaylite 3000mm x 1200mm x 18mm GR board with all waste material used in the packaging, while the Oliver Bonas work used 33sqm.

"I use Ultra Board for a range of applications," said Thomas. "In addition to being incredibly strong in load-bearing situations, it is also a perfect material for temporary and one-off structures because it is 100% recyclable when it is time to create the next scheme.

"Dufaylite can cut Ultra Board according to my detailed designs, meaning that virtually anything is possible in terms of realising a vision for retail clients."
